Synopsis:
set in France by the time King Louis XIII
was just a teenager. It seems that nobody wants to see him sitting on
the throne, including his lovely mother. But there is a loyal nobleman
who will fight bravely to put things in order. Legendary French actor
Jean Marais is a bit too old to play the hero but he tries hard and
really does a good job. As the comic relief, comedian Bourvil plays
the street artist who helps Marais in his mission. Fencing and action
sequences don't look as great as in Errol Flynn's classics but the old
castles are real and "Le Capitan" provides a good fun for its
audience. By the way, English title "Captain Blood" makes no sense;
this captain has no relation neither to 1935 Hollywood classic nor to
Rafael Sabatini's novel (this one is based on Michel Zevaco's
histories). Marcio F Cuzziol |

carved his name across the continents - and his glory across the seas!
Set in 17th Century England, Dr. Peter Blood is convicted of treason
for suckling the wounds of a rebel to the King. He is sentenced to

slavery. Purchased for 20 pounds by the beautiful Arabella Bishop, he
soon befriends a man convicted for debt and persuades him to by a
small boat for the purpose of his escape. During an attack by Spain,
the boat is sunk so the slaves steal the Spaniard ship and thus is

once again runs into Arabella who has been taken prisoner by a rival
pirate. He rescues her and returns to Port Royal to find it under
attack by the French who are now at war with England. The rebellion is

Synopsis:
Film inspired on the life of Vasco Núñez
de Balboa. Frank Latimore is cast as Balboa, the heroic Spanish
explorer who discovers the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, he must
pacify the wrath of his enemies and battle his way through a forest
inhabited by savage natives. This one features some really nice
battles, stunning ocean photography, and tolerable reconstruction of
historic events. The romance between the Balboa and the Indian queen
is of course fake, but adds to the drama and spectacle of it all. |
