Synopsis:
Roman agent is sent to Palestine to
investigate rumors of the resurrection of an executed criminal. L'
Imperatore Tiberio incarica Tauro di andare in Palestina a ritrovare
il corpo di un ribelle Ebreo, Gesù di Nazareth, crocefisso anni prima,
per far cessare le leggende circa la sua resurrezione.
L' inchiesta imperiale suscita scalpore e allarme e molti, tra cui
Ponzio Pilato, si chiedono se effettivamente gli scopi di Tauro siano
sollo quelli di ritrovare il cadavere di un giustiziato. Anche la
moglie di Pilato, Claudia, appare turbata dalle ricerche di Tauro e si
offre di accompagnarlo al sepolcro da cui sparì il corpo di Gesù.
Racconta anche la storia di Maria Maddalena, che fu discepola del
Nazareno ed assistette alla sua resurrezione.
Tutte le testimonianze che Tauro raccoglie rendono sempre più
inspiegabile la sparizione del corpo e procedendo ancora nelle
ricerche, si renderà conto che la razionalità da sola non basta a
spiegare il mistero. |

Synopsis: Set

film is based on "The Legend of the Grand Inquisitor", a short story
that figures prominently in Dostoyevsky's novel "The Brothers
Karamazov". The story was completely omitted from MGM's 1958 film
