Synopsis: Film inspired on the life of Vasco Núńez de Balboa. Frank Latimore is cast as Balboa, the heroic Spanish explorer who discovers the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, he must pacify the wrath of his enemies and battle his way through a forest inhabited by savage natives. The romance between the Balboa and the Indian queen is of course fake, but adds to the drama and spectacle of it all.

Bonnie Prince Charlie (1948)

Credits: Directed by: Anthony Kimmins. Actors: David Niven as Prince Charles, Margaret Leighton as Flora MacDonald, Judy Campbell as Clementine Walkinshaw, Jack Hawkins as Lord George Murray, Morland Graham as Donald, Finlay Currie as Marquis of Tullibardine, Elwyn Brook-Jones asDuke of Cumberland, John Laurie asBlind Jimmie, Hector Ross as Glenalandale, Hugh Kelly as Lieutenant Ingleby, Charles Goldner as Captain Ferguson, David Niven as Prince Charles, Margaret Leighton as Flora MacDonald, Judy Campbell as Clementine Walkinshaw, Jack Hawkins as Lord George Murray, Morland Graham as Donald, Finlay Currie as Marquis of Tullibardine, Elwyn Brook-Jones as Duke of Cumberland, John Laurie as Blind Jimmie, Hector Ross as Glenalandale, Hugh Kelly as Lieutenant Ingleby...
Synopsis: This English version of Charles Stuart's attempt to seize the British crown from the House of Hannover, is disjointed and relatively unexciting. The crucial Battle of Culloden Moor is talked about, but not depicted. David Niven, as the Young Pretender, is very sincere, and does a good job, but he is betrayed by the script and the editing. The highlight of the film are the Scottish Highlands themselves. The color photography is breath taking. A word of caution on the VHS tape. The edition available is issued by Republic Pictures of Canada. It is in the EP mode, and the audio is TERRIBLE. One literally has to turn the volume to Max to hear anything.
